The Ukiah Police Detectives assisted by Patrol Officers arrested the above listed suspects on 4/23/13 stemming from a month long theft investigation by Wal-Mart Security. The Ukiah Wal-Mart store reported that thousands of dollars of electronic equipment had been stolen over the last month and store security began investigating. It was determined that James Ryan Anson, age 24 of Ukiah, had been frequenting the store and taking items. The investigation was coordinated with UPD Detectives and on 4/23/13 at 5:30 p.m., store security contacted UPD Detectives reporting that Anson was in the store selecting merchandise. Detectives and Patrol Officers responded and took Anson into custody for a $50,000.00 arrest warrant for violation of probation. Upon further investigation stolen items from Wal-Mart were found in his possession at the time of his arrest. A search warrant was obtained for his residence in the 2300 Block of North State Street, just outside the city limits of Ukiah. A large amount of stolen merchandise, primarily large dollar televisions, electronics and computers were recovered during the service of the search warrant. Chalese McChesney, age 29 of Ukiah, who also lives in the residence, was arrested for possession of stolen property and conspiracy. Detectives worked late into the night on this case and the total dollar amount of merchandise recovered has yet to be fully determined.

Both Anson and McChesney were booked into the Mendocino County Jail for the felony charges indicated.   Anson’s bail is $70,000. McChesney’s bail is $15,000.00.
