Arrests included: 7 for public intoxication, 6 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 5 warrant arrests, 4 for shoplifting, 3 for violating probation or parole, 3 for possessing methamphetamine for sale, 2 for domestic violence, 2 for possessing methamphetamine, and 1 each for: theft, burglary, battery, and attempted murder. Probation or parole holds were placed on 2 of these arrests.

Officers investigated 1 traffic collision. One vehicle was impounded for 30 days due to the driver being unlicensed or suspended.

Officers took reports of: 4 found property, 4 thefts, 3 identity theft, 3 abandoned vehicles, 2 child neglect, and 1 each of; vandalism, suicidal subject, animal bite, violation of court order, battery, domestic violence, vehicle tampering, annoying children, missing person, and burglary.

Officers assisted the Ukiah Police Detective Bureau with several elder abuse cases and a rape investigation, and the California Highway Patrol with a stolen vehicle investigation.

Highlights for the Week

On March 28

that about 10:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Wal Mart area, 1155 Airport Park Boulevard, for a disturbance. Officers learned two females were seated at a table on the north end of Wal Mart, smoking cigarettes. The females were approached by 41 year old Lawrence Edward Sommer, who asked the females for a cigarette. Sommer then offered to buy a cigarette from the two, and when denied he took the pack of cigarettes from the table. Sommer refused to return the cigarettes, and made comments about contacting Israel and bombing the women if they did not provide him a cigarette. Sommer eventually returned the cigarettes, and was subsequently placed under citizen’s arrest for theft. 13-0758

On March 29

that about 8:35 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 300 block of Leslie Street for a domestic assault. Offices learned the victim had been struck in the face by 28 year old Nina Monique Garcia, who then fled the location. At about 11:20 PM Ukiah Police located Garcia in the 1500 block of Monroe Street, and took her into custody. Garcia had been drinking, and became physically resistive and refused to be place into the police car. After an extended struggle Garcia was finally secured in the police vehicle and transported to the County Jail for domestic violence and resisting a peace officer. 13-0776

On March 29

that about 12:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Perkins Street Grill, at 228 East Perkins Street, for an intoxicated subject who’d been denied entry but was attempting to sneak in. Officers contacted 39 year old Wayne Ryan Campbell on the north side of the building, and found Campbell was extremely intoxicated. Campbell was on parole and prohibited from drinking, and was arrested for violating parole. 13-0778

On March 30

that about 2:25 PM Ukiah Police were patrolling the Pear Tree Center as a merchant was hosting the "Easter Bunny" and large groups of children were expected to be in the area. The officer noticed 41 year old Clarence Bernard Christmas in the shopping center, and knew him to be on parole. Christmas was in possession of a pornographic magazine, which is a violation of his parole, and he was arrested. 13-0783

On March 31

st at about 12:45 AM Ukiah Police contacted 29 year old Jessica Misty Ewing, of Philo, in the 400 block of North State Street. Ewing possessed a large fixed blade knife concealed within her boot, and was arrested for illegal weapons possession. Ewing had Chris Dewey Chief of Police

less than one gram of methamphetamine in her pocket, and was additionally charged with possessing methamphetamine. 13-0788

On March 31

stat about 2:55 Ukiah Police responded to Safeway, at 653 South State Street, for a shoplifter who’d left the store walking south. Officers located the suspect, identified as 22 year old Amber Naomee Beck, in the 700 block of South State Street. Officers determined Beck had received food at the deli counter at Safeway, valued at over $8.00, and told the cashier she had other shopping to do. Beck then exited the store without paying for the food, and was identified by store employees. Beck was placed under citizen’s arrest for shoplifting. 13-0790

On March 31

stat about 10:40 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of South Main Street, in which 21 year old Christopher Robert Ashurst, of Hopland, was a passenger. The vehicle smelled of marijuana, and Ashurst displayed symptoms of having used drugs recently. Ashurst was evaluated and arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Inside a paper bag which had been between Ashurst’s legs on the floorboard, officers found over 5 ounces of marijuana in several separate packages. Ashurst was additionally charged with possessing marijuana for sale and transported to the County Jail, where it discovered Ashurst had less than one gram of methamphetamine inside his pants pocket. Ashurst was additionally charged with possessing methamphetamine. 13-0793

On April 1

stat about 10:20 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Corey Cristin Garman, in the 1000 block of North State Street. Garman displayed symptoms of having used drugs recently, and a search of her vehicle revealed over 4 grams of methamphetamine. Garman driver’s license was suspended, and she was arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license, possessing methamphetamine for sale, and for violating probation. 13-0806

On April 2

ndat about 4:30 PM Ukiah Police responded to the area near JC Penney’s, at 205 North Orchard Avenue, for a male and female yelling at customers. Officers contacted 58 year old Michael James Donahe, of Fort Bragg, who was seated next to an empty bottle of liquor and who was very inebriated. Donahe was arrested for public intoxication. 13-0810
